Gender Selection The Genetics & IVF Institute conducted a clinical trial of the XSORT method designed to increase the probability of conceiving a girl. As of this writing, 945 babies were born to parents using the XSORT method, and 879 of them were girls. Use a 0.01 significance level to test the claim that the XSORT method is effective in increasing the likelihood that a baby will be a girl.

Testing Claims About Proportions. In Exercises 9–32, test the given claim. Identify the null hypothesis, alternative hypothesis, test statistic, P-value or critical value(s), conclusion about the null hypothesis, and final conclusion that addresses the original claim.
