5. The initiation of voluntary movement is correlated with sequential activity in the prefrontal cortex and parietal cortex, followed by activity in the premotor cortex and SMA. Incorporating input from the basal ganglia and thalamus, commands are finally issued by the pyramidal cells of the primary motor cortex.
