To what extent would it be ethical to tweak the original philosophy of CBT (its focus on personal responsibility) to better t into the context of collectivistic societies? Should clients with collectivistic values still be encouraged to follow the classic procedures (although it would not be as effective), or should we modify CBT to be more therapist-directed, since that is in line with the cultural expectation?
