Medical settings have long been favorite settings for television shows, such as General Hospital, Dr. Welby, MD, and M*A*S*H. What is our cultural fascination with this type of work setting? What kinds of cultural issues arise in these shows in the depictions of illness, death, birth, and families? How many of the encounters involve intercultural issues, and how are they handled?
