The debate between single-tenancy versus multi-tenancy often comes down to how much a digital business is prepared to spend on SaaS and how resistant to the idea of multi-tenancy a SaaS supplier is. Multi-tenant SaaS providers can achieve high levels of scalability and operational efficiency that can’t be achieved through singletenant arrangements. The business drivers for both the buyer and the supplier of SaaS shouldn’t (just) be about the technology. In providing a service, a SaaS provider needs to understand how much they can gain as a business by providing multi-tenant solutions versus single-tenant. The received wisdom seems to be - the broader the appeal of a SaaS application, the more sensible it seems to offer it as a multi-tenant arrangement (Murphy, 2017).
