An Associated Press story (Feb. 23, 2007) about UCLA's annual survey of college freshmen indi- cated that 73% of college freshmen in 2006 consid- ered being financially well off to be very important, compared to 42% in 1966 (the first year the survey was done). It also reported that 81% of 18- to 25- year-olds in the U.S. see getting rich as a top goal in life.
