Question:

Researchers in Brazil explored the relationship between overconfidence and accuracy among Brazilian accountants (Cardoso, 2016). Based on a presurvey, the researchers classified their subjects as being overconfident in their decision-making skills or not. They also presented participants with data displayed in various formats that described people entering and exiting a store. The participants then had to determine the time (to the minute) when the largest number of people were entering the store and the time (to the minute) when the largest number of people were exiting the store. The following table shows the number that got neither question (entering/existing) correct, one correct, and both correct.

a. Getting both questions correct was the most likely outcome for both groups. Which group, overconfident or not overconfident, had a higher proportion get both correct?

b. Could you use the Mean Group Diff and a simulation-based test to test these data? Explain.

c. State the hypotheses for a chi-square test.

d. Use the appropriate applet to find the p-value.

e. State your conclusion in the context of the research question and if your results are significant, use follow-up confidence intervals to determine what is significantly different between the two groups.
