Citrin was an employee of International AirportCenters (IAC). As such he was responsible for  identifying properties that IAC might want to buy. To help in his work, IAC loaned Citrin a laptop computer on which to store the data he collected. Citrin eventually decided that he would branch off on his own and start a competing firm. Before quitting IAC and turning in his laptop, Citrin downloaded a computer program that wiped out the hard drive which contained the data IAC had paid him to collect as well as evidence of his misconduct.
