(a) Stewart points out managers who think about what can be done only in terms of what they can do cannot be effective.

(b) Managers are encouraged to empower staff with greater authority and responsibility but still held accountable for their actions and performance. It is only right they should continue to exercise close supervision and control.

(c) Reasons for lack of effective delegation are easy to understand. It is faster and easier to do the work yourself. The main problem is that few people ever learn how to put trust in other people or coached in the skills of empowerment.
