A uniform horizontal rod of mass \(m\) and length \(\ell\) is supported against gravity by two identical springs, one at each end of the rod. Assuming the motion is confined to the vertical plane, find the normal modes and frequencies of the system. Then find the motion in case just one end of the rod is displaced from equilibrium and released from rest.
