Consider that social security taxes have been raised substantially in recent years. One half of this tax on labor is paid by the employers directly, and the other half is withheld from employees' paychecks. Does this mean that the employer and the employee in fact each share half the burden of the tax? What would determine their respective shares, and would it be the same for all workers, e.g., farm workers, skilled mechanics?
