Struckman-Johnson (1988) surveyed 623 students in a study to compare the proportions of men and women at a small midwestern university who have been coerced by their date into having sexual intercourse (date rape). A survey of over 600 students produced 623 responses. Of the 355 female respondents, 79 reported an experience of coercion, while 43 of the 268 male respondents reported coercion. Test the null hy- pothesis that males and females experience coercion at an equal rate.
