If Jodi does expand the retail business, would the building next door be the right location, or would a location in the downtown area be more ideal to creating a successful retail expansion?

Short Street Cakes is an all-natural “southern-style” bakery that specializes in wedding cakes and cupcake production. Short Street Cakes was opened in Asheville, North Carolina, in February 2009 by Jodi Rhoden, a small business entrepreneur and self-taught baker. As a hobby, Jodi began making wedding cakes from home for her friends around the area. As it turned out, Jodi’s cake-making skills were heavily in demand throughout the Asheville community. Word spread quickly of the quality and decadence of her cakes.
Next, Jodi got her home kitchen certified, created a menu of her cake offerings, took a business class, and then started a booming home-based cake business. This lasted for three years and provided a great foundation to eventually expand the business outside of her home. Jodi then found an investor to partner in opening a full-fledged bakery, which she called Short Street Cakes.
