How should we collect the data? And what would it look like? The architecture of the building is clearly one aspect, which could be described in a written account or with photographs, but is hard to interpret in terms of its effect on behaviour. A video would catch everything and provide back-up data, but working the equipment might distract from the ability to observe in the here and now. One could count the people: determining the number of men and women, their age, how they are dressed, their demeanour. There might be nothing going on or a burst of activity, so where would one focus?

Impressions would need to be recorded, as well as the ‘facts’ of who is going in and out.
