Like many countries, Scotland is facing challenges in terms of providing health care to a demographically changing population. Health-care provision and planning is organised largely on a regional basis. Two of the regions have commissioned a short report highlighting the key demographic changes expected over the next couple of decades. Dumfries & Galloway is a largely rural region and one of the smallest in population terms; Greater Glasgow & Clyde is primarily urban and the largest region.
