This week I noticed a lot of use of the overly sentimental appeal, for example. The commercials that ask people to donate money for those that are less fortunate outside of the USA. Instead of just asking viewers and people to donate, they play these commercial that are an hour long, of sad children to distract the viewers. There are adults who are living impoverished and starving just as much but in the commercials they only show children because they are aware that people have more sympathy for children.
This week I also noticed the Bandwagon appeal being used in phone commercials. The commercial shows everyone with the same type of "cool" phone, and then it shows a man with his retro, out-dated phone and eventually he ends up buying the cool phone and is then, celebrated. This commercial is basically sending the message that if you don't have the phone that they're advertising, then you’re different in a bad way. This will cause some people to feel left out or un cool and make them purchase the advertised phone.
