Write a response to the following description:

Human Resources are a part of an organization that is often overlooked or shunned. In the past, an employee usually only went to that department when they were having problems. Human Resources have evolved into much more than it used to be. Three new roles of HR professionals are being strategic partners, an employee sponsor or advocate, and a change mentor.

Being a strategic partner means “The HR person contributes to the development of an accomplishment of the organization-wide business plan and objectives.” The HR person needs to be a strategic planner when hiring new employees. The new hires need to fit in with the long range plans for the company. The HR person also need to be accountable for cost reductions and making sure the ROI for HR programs are beneficial to the company.

Being an employee sponsor or advocate is a role that will help the HR person be a motivator. This is a role that helps the employees to be motivated, contributing and happy. It is their job to help employees with issues such as employee development opportunities, employee assistance programs, and complaints.

Being a change mentor or change champion is very important. In the business world a company always has to make changes to stay ahead of the competition. Being able to execute changes and show the employees that they are beneficial to the company if the main part of this role. Employees usually do not like change but if the HR person can validate the need for the change to them so they will accept it easier.

In my company my job description is Finance Manager/Human Resources Manager so I know a lot about the need for these roles. The previous Human Resources Manager did not practice any of these roles so they are new to the company.

One of the programs I have developed helps me with my strategic partner role and my Employee advocate role at the same time. This program encourages employees to reduce expense each quarter in return for a quarterly bonus. This help them be more conscious of things like turning off lights when they are not in a room or being more efficient with office supplies. As a strategic partner this program helps cost reductions, which helps the financial stability for the future. As an Employee advocate it sets a goal that empowers the employee through responsibility and is an opportunity for them to get a bonus.

In the role of Change mentor I make sure I am knowledgeable about changes happening in the company. I try to present the changes as opportunities to improve the company and reach long term goals. If the employees understand that the changes have value to the company they are more likely to accept them.
