The mark-up on $1 & $2 products is lower than the mark-up on $3 & $4 products. Occasionally, SOME of the barcode stickers placed on $3 and $4 products do not scan properly. In those cases. the owner of Simple manually keys in the barcode number. A recently hired cashier is not aware of this work-around (i.e., manually keying in the barcode numbers) and uses the following work-around: . If a $4 product barcode does not work: scans a $2 product twice . If a $3 product barcode does not work: scans a $1 product and a $2 product (Note: the cashier has both a $1 item and a $2 item at the cash register to enable this work- around. not other products the customer may have bought.
