Is the answer y = (-2/3x - 4) < or equal to -6

y = -(-2/3x-4) > -6

2) For the absolute function y = |x² -3x-4| express the piecewise function?

Is the answer y = x² -3x -4 , x< or equal to -1 or x> or equal to 4

y = -(x² - 3x -4), x>-1 or x<4

I know how to use the intercepts to find the numbers but I am not sure how to determine which way the signs should go?
