1. Health care for older adults is complex. Many private insurances such as employer-paid insurance generally cover those younger than 65 years old, while public funds are used to pay for Medicare which provides insurance for older adults. Unfortunately, Medicare generally doesn't cover chronic health needs such as eyeglasses, hearing aids, and other long term services that the aging population needs. This puts policy makers in a difficult position. Raising taxes, reallocating funds, and cutting back on overall coverage are all on the table. There seems to be no magic solution. So, how does community health come into play? Although not every health concern can be prevented, what are some general prevention strategies for older adults, and how can the United States and our communities help with prevention of chronic diseases? Is funding prevention more cost effective than the increasing cost of health care? (10 points)
