1. THE GARAGE Since you car has been acting up lately, you decide to bring it to a garage to gure out what is wrong with it. After you talk to the mechanic, the following sequence of events take place: [1} The mechanic performs an inspection to determine what is wrong with your car. The time that it takes (in minutes) to perform the inspection is uniform on the set {5, 6, 7,8, 9, 10}. (2) After performing the inspection, the mechanic determines the extent of re- pairs that your car needs: Your car needs minor repairs with probability 1/ 2, moderate repairs with probability 1/ 3, and major repairs with proba- bility 1/6. Once the cause of the problem and the extent of repairs is identied, the mechanic goes to work xing your car. This process goes as follows: (1} If your car needs minor repairs, then the amount of time (in minutes) that the mechanic will spend working on your car is uniform on the set {5, 6,7, 8, 9, 10}, and the mechanic will install $100 worth of new parts in your car. [2) If your car needs moderate repairs, then the amount of time (in minutes) that the mechanic will spend working on your car is uniform on the set {10, 11, 12, 13,14, 15}, and the mechanic will install $500 worth of new parts in your car. [3) If your car needs major repairs, then the amount of time (in minutes) that the mechanic will spend working on your car is uniform on the set {15, 16, 17, . . . , 25}, and the mechanic will install $1 000 worth of new parts in your car. Problem 1.1. If the mechanic charges $150.00 per hour of work, how much should you expect to pay in total [i.e., the combined cost of the mechanic's labor and the new parts]
