1.In Chapter 10's Preview section, the authors presented a study showing that handling money reduces the perception of pain (Zhou, Vohs, & Baumeister, 2009). In the experiment, a group of college students was told that they were participating in a manual dexterity study. Half of the students were given a stack of money to count and the other half got a stack of blank pieces of paper. After the counting task, the participants were asked to dip their hands into bowls of very hot water and rate how uncomfortable it was on a scale of 1 (extremely comfortable) to 9 (extremely uncomfortable). You attempt to replicate the study and find the following data (see ancillary data files). You test the hypothesis that handling money will in fact lower perceived pain compared to those not handling money.

Now, I have added a control group to the mix. So, you have a Money, Paper, and Control group to assess. Run a one-way between-groups ANOVA with alpha set to .05 to determine whether there are any significant differences. If there are, be sure to run post-hoc tests.

Money 4 3 5 3 6 7 5 4 3 2 1 3 4 5 4 3 6 7 4 5 4 3 6 5 7 8 5 4 3

Paper 1 9 8 7 8 9 6 7 8 9 8 7 6 7 8 9 4 9 8 7 6 7 8 4 9 1 8 7 9

Control 4 5 3 4 4 3 6 7 4 5 2 3 4 5 4 3 5 6 4 5 3 2 6 5 4 3 2 3 5

a.What did you find for your F-value?

b.What is eta squared?

c.What is your decision?

d.Write up your results adhering to APA guidelines?

e.Did you conduct post hoc tests? Why or why not?
