1.Samantha is the manager of two Bendigo Bank branches, East and West, in the central plaza. She would like to investigate complaints of long queues in both branches to improve customer experience. To analyse the waiting time, Samantha observed and recorded the waiting time of customers at the counter of each branch during peak hours. The recorded waiting time of a random sample of 50 customers for each branch can be found in the file Problem Solving Exercises (Part 3), Question 1 Data worksheet . (a) Use EXCEL to obtain a histogram for each branch. Use bin steps of size 2 starting from 2 through to 20 inclusive. EXCEL Instructions: Go to the Assignments page on the course web site and download EXCEL file (This link) for this question, called Problem Solving Exercise (Part 3). Refer to Topic 6 in the Excel Booklet for instructions on how to obtain and format a histogram; use the data and bins given in the Question 1 Data worksheet. (b) Use EXCEL to obtain Descriptive Statistics, Quartile 1 (Q1) and Quar-tile 3 (Q3) for each branch. EXCEL Instructions: Refer to Topic 7 in the Excel Booklet for instructions on how to obtain Descriptive Statistics and the two quartiles. (c) Based on the histograms in (a), brie y describe the shape (symmetry, modality and outliers) of the data for each branch. Instructions for identifying outliers: Whether an observation is an outlier is a matter of judgement. One rule commonly used for identifying outliers is the so-called 1.5 IQR rule. An observation is suspected to be an outlier if it lies more than 1.5 IQR below the first quartile Q1 or above the third quartile Q3. Apply this rule to the data from each branch. Identify suspected outliers (if any) by their exact value(s). (d) Nominate an appropriate measure of central tendency and dispersion for the distribution of waiting time for each branch. Give reason(s) for your choice. For each distribution, give and interpret the values of the summary measures you have chosen. (e) On the basis of your results of (a)-(d), which branch has a longer waiting time? Write a paragraph based on your findings to Samantha providing advice to the arrangements of tellers at the two branches. (Use EXCEL Text Box).
