#3 General Instructions:
-An individual in an Employee Benefits class is asked to answer the following questions regarding the case and readings read so far from Chapter 1 through Chapter 11. Textbook: Employee Benefits by Joseph Martocchio 7th edition.
- Please respond to the questions below of the scenario provided as completely as practicable, thoroughly and provide an example for each to justify the individuals answer.
Scenario#1: I am an HR Manager. My employee just turned 65 and asked me about the different Parts of Medicare.
a) Please help summarize for the individual the difference between the different Medicare Parts, including generally what services each Part covers and what each Part would cost the employee.
b) Also, an employee asked whether we could reimburse his individual Medicare costs if he waives our group medical plan. Sounds fair to the individual since well save money with him not on our plan.
c) What does the individual think?
Scenario#2: An individual was just hired by ABC Software company as a 25-year-old software engineer making 75k (65k salary plus 10k bonus). The individuals sister is a
benefits expert. The following note was sent to the individual by the new hire benefits coordinator at ABC Company. The individual does not understand benefits terminology at all. The individual is excerpting the parts they especially did not understand:
....In addition to the other benefits at ABC Company, the individual also has company paid life insurance at 3x earnings with $50,000 guaranteed issue, short term disability which pays 60% up to $1,000/week, and long-term disability that pays 60% to $3,000/month to SSNRA, with a 3/12 pre-existing condition exclusion. The individual also has access to a voluntary dental plan which would cost the individual $50/month, pays 100% of preventive services, 80% of basic services, 50% of major services, with an annual benefit cap of $1,000.
d) Please explain to the individual in English (meaning in simple terms so the individual can understand) the benefits above, and also whether the individual should sign up for the voluntary dental plan (and especially tell the individual why).
