3. Sulfuric acid is produced by reacting a gas stream entering the adsorption tower at the rate of 50 lb mol per hour containing 5% mol SO; (remainder inerts), with the water in the scrubbing sulfuric acid solution entering the tower as well. About 96% of the SO; in the gas stream is absorbed in this tower. The scrubbing sulfuric acid solution contains 97.3 % wt sulfuric acid, and is introduced unto the top of the tower. This scrubbing solution is first prepared by mixing a portion of the product stream leaving the tower and a make-up acid solution containing 93.2 % sulfuric acid. The product stream leaving the tower contains 96.0% sulfuric acid. The other portion of the product stream (not mixed by the make-up water), leaves as the final product in the final stream. Calculate the following: a) Tons/day of make-up acid solution required. b) Tons/day of scrubbing acid solution introduced into the top of the tower. c) Tons/day of acid solution produced in the final stream d) Compositions of the gas streams entering and leaving the tower
