(30) The pressure in the reactor shown in Figure 1 is controlled by a cooling water system in which a temperature sensor (1) is used to control a valve (3) by use of a controller (2). High pressure is mitigated by releasing some of the contents of the reactor by use of a pressure sensor (4), a controller (5), and a solenoid valve (6). a) Draw a fault tree for this system in which the top event is that the vessel exceeds its MAWP (maximum allowable working pressure). The pressure relief valve is not used in this calculation. b) Calculate the reliability for this system and the associated MTBF for the top event. You may assume a time period of 1 year for these calculations. The pressure relief valve is not used in this calculation. c) The pressure relief system is intended to prevent damage to the reactor in the event of a runaway reaction. Use the results of the above calculations to estimate the dangerous process episode frequency for which the MAWP is exceeded. Calculate the MTBC if the pressure relief valve is inspected as part of the routine maintenance conducted every 3 months
