3a) Calculate the force applied in a direction perpendicular to the handle of a wrench and at the end of the handle with a torque of 25N.m and length of the wrench (r) is 0.65m inclined at 90 degrees.
To find the force(F), the torque and length of the wrench is required. A longer wrench can exert a larger torque for the same amount of force.
3b) A disk weighs 40Ib and has a radius of gyration of 1.6ft. A 25ft Ib moment is applied and the spring has a spring constant of 20 Ib/ft. Find te angular velocity of the wheel when the point G moves 1.5 ft. The wheel starts from rest and rolls without slipping. The spring is initially unstretched.
Since the body rolls without slipping on a horizontal surface, only the spring force and couple moment M do work. Since the spring is attached to the top of the wheel, it will stretch twice the amount of displacement.
3c) A 100kg wheel is subjected to a force of 40N. The radius of gyration of the wheel about its mass center is 0.3m. Find the angular velocity of the wheel after it has rotated 20 revolutions and when the wheel starts from rest and rolls without slipping using the principle of work and energy to solve the problem. Since distance is the primary parameter.
