Drawing Diastereomers and Enantiomers with Labetaloll Labetalol is a drug used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). it also comes in 4 exciting stereoisomers, 2 of which are active (through different mechanisms!) and 2 of which have no clinical effect. The IUPAC name of this molecule is a bit wacky and is outside the scope of this course (2-hydroxy-5-11-hydroxy-2-1(1-methyl-3-phenylpropyl)aminolethyllbenzamide monohydrochloride), so we're just going to simplify and label the stereocenters as 1 and 2 (not corresponding with the IUPAC name). Please draw out all four stereoisomers, then fill in the relationships between the isomers below. PROTIP that will help on the homework and exam: Start by drawing the "simplest" version of the molecule, L.e. make the lowest priority groups going backwards.
