4. Drawing Diastereomers and Enantiomers with Labetaloll Labetalol is a drug used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). it also comes in 4 exciting stereoisomers, 2 of which are active (through different mechanisms!) and 2 of which have no clinical effect. The IUPAC name of this molecule is a bit wacky and is outside the scope of this course (2-hydroxy-5-11-hydroxy-2-1(1-methyl-3-phenylpropyl)aminolethyllbenzamide monohydrochloride), so we're just going to simplify and label the stereocenters as 1 and 2 (not corresponding with the IUPAC name). Please draw out all four stereoisomers, then fill in the relationships between the isomers below. PROTIP that will help on the homework and exam: Start by drawing the "simplest" version of the molecule, L.e. make the lowest priority groups going backwards. You can then base all of your other drawings off of that one! (1S/2S) (1R/2S) (1 1/2R )
