When reading the volume of liquid in a graduated cylinder, you must always read the lowest part of the meniscus with your eye perpendicular to the cylinder. You know you are looking directly at a cylinder when a mark obscures itself as it continues around the cylinder. To practice, set your 10 mL graduated cylinder on your lab bench and move your head (you may need to get out of your seat) so that the graduated cylinder is at eye level.
