8- Charging materials (Iron ore, sinter, pellet, flux and coke) are loaded into blast furnace to produce 1 ton of
pig iron. 500kg coke and unknown weight of flux (F) will be charged per 1000kg of pig iron.
Charge distribution ratio of iron containing burdens is (iron ore 20%+ sinter 60%+20% pellet)
and with CaOSiO2=810 in the slag formed. No iron oxide formation and no iron oxide
loss will be assumed in the calculation.
a) Calculate the quantity of iron ore, sinter&pellet to be charged to produce 1 ton of pig iron ?
b) Calculate the quantity of flux (F) by using CaOSiO2=810 ratio ?
c) Calculate the weight of total slag to be formed and Oxide % distribution in the slag ?(30 p) Chemical
composition of burdens in weight basis
Atomic masses (g/mol): Fe: 56, C:12, O:16, Si: 28, Ca: 40, Mn: 55
