A company is to build a new 6 story office building for its 150 employees. You have been selected to submit a design for the corporate network. The company has requested that your design provide: -Internet access to all workstations.

-LAN access to all workstations

-WiFi access to Lobby for clients and visitors

-Adequate recommendations for quantity of public IP addresses

-Suitable proposals for external bandwidth requirements

-Appropriate recommendations for internal bandwidth requirements

-Adequate power backup recommendations to ensure availability

The major requirements are:

1. All visitors and clients must be able to access the Internet via WiFi at the building's lobby. The company receives nearly 200 daily visitors, with an average of 70% requesting Internet connections, using their connections 50% of the time. Make sure that you provide for this scenario.

2. The lobby is also home to the companys security office. All security cameras (100) use wired IP technology. There are 5 workstations in the lobby and a total of 10 employees. Four of the workstations are solely used to monitor the security cameras.

3. Notwithstanding the earlier requirement (as mentioned in 1), the company's CIO wants to block WiFi access for those outside the building, including those who are passing by on the nearby sidewalks.

4. The 6th floor houses the executive officers. Only 20 static hosts are present, but the bosses also require wireless access to the Internet and Intranet in this floor. There are 25 employees working in this floor.

5. The company's data center is located on the East corner of the second floor. It features 30 LAN servers and 3 web server racks (total of 10 machines for web services per rack). The rest of this second floor houses the enterprise's IT Department. A total of 20 individuals work in this floor. The data center includes the company's SAN servers. Not all LAN services require Internet access. LAN services also include Companys's Intranet infrastructure. The company provides services to its clients via the Web. The services include accounting and payroll, finance, human resources, inventory, and business intelligence. Make sure that your design enables MCS to provide these services.

6. Company's telephone service uses VoIP technology. How many telephone numbers are required?

7. The 3rd floor is home to Customer Service, with a total employee count of 30.

8. The 4th floor houses the sale department. There are 30 salespersons and 15 support personnel in this floor.

9. The Human Resources Department is located on the 5th floor. The department includes 20 employees.

10. You must provide a sketch detailing the routers, switches and servers located on each floor. The sketch must also include any WAP's.

11. In your design you must include the reasons for using, or not using, virtual LANs in the network.

12. The sketches should describe a complete network map for the building, including all IP address ranges, and the IP address of all links.

13. Consider network security issues in your design and provide appropriate solutions.

14. You must support the equipment selection decision by including a cost estimate. Present the estimate in a table-like manner, making sure that each selected appliance is the right one for the job. Do not include equipment data sheets in your report (although they could be added as addenda).

15. The company needs your help in order to understand their Internet bandwidth needs. Support your decision by including a bandwidth estimate for each floor.

16. In order to provide an accurate internal bandwidth suggestion, provide the reasoning for your recommendation.

17. Make sure that the equipment power needs are correctly evaluated. Your design should estimate the networks power requirements and suggest appropriate power back-up solutions.

18. The company needs your help in order to understand, and acquire, public IP address blocks. Your team must research ARINs policies for IP address assignments, and provide answers based on real world scenarios.

19. Using the software application provided in this courses laboratory segment, prove that the suggested network is feasible. Provide test results that show connectivity.
