A marketing brochure for a skin softener for hot tubs and spas stated that 3 oz would soften the water for up to 3 days and prevent your skin from drying out. Iris purchased a bottle based on the claim and started adding it to the water every 3 days as instructed. She found her skin was still drying out and itchy after use. So she tried another product that stated: incredible breakthrough for skin softening for spas -use one ounce and it is good for a week of regular use". They also claimed it was safe to use in all spas and with other spa oils. She initially found no effect and then broke out in an itchy rash. There was no mention of any of this on the bottle, so she contacted the manufacturer. They told her she must have combined the product with something else to get this reaction as it has never happened before. She went to her doctor and was told she had an severe allergic reaction and she had told him about the use of the product. The rash persisted and she took the medicine prescribed. She continued to go to allergists trying to improve the rash, but treatments were getting too expensive to continue. She has sought legal advice to compensate her for all the expense, time and suffering from the product. Did either of these manufacturers commit a mistake or misrepresentation in their labeling and communication ( note the type and the remedy)? Format
