A metal block with uniform thickness of 100 cm and thermal conductivity of 45 W/m-C is insulated on all four sides and part of the bottom. The bottom surface of 30 cm length is at a constant temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, while the top sufarce of the block is 70 degrees Celsius. What is the amount of heat energy transmitted through the metal block per unit time ?
Note from student: It is unclear to me if I should be assuming the insulation is adiabatic/assume a resistance, if I should assume a convection heat transfer coefficient, if I should calculate this with nodes or some other method? It seems simply calculating heat transfer through the metal without considering it is partially insulated is the correct answer to this question.
