A mixture of water and methanol that is 6040 by moles is to be separated into a water-rich portion and a methanol-rich portion. The mixture is first placed in a boiler at 1atm and at a temperature such that, at equilibrium of the vapor and the liquid will be equimolar (same number of moles). The liquid is collected as a product, whereas the vapor is sent to a condenser (also at 1atm ) where it is to be condensed fully into a liquid. Answer the following three parts in two different ways: i) using the Txy diagram below for 1atm and ii) solving Raoult's law and mass balances (where applicable). (a) Determine the temperature of the boiler. (b) What is the composition of the liquid and vapor? (In terms of mol fractions) (c) Determine the range of temperature (in C ) of the condenser to achieve a liquid product (range: your answer could be any of these: "exactly x ", " x to y ", "lower than x ", or "higher than y ") Figure: Txy diagram for a mixture of water and methanol at 1atm
