A psychologist wants to study how interruptions affect concentration. There are 18 subjects in this study. This study is a repeated measures design. Each subject will participate in two conditions. In condition 1, the subject is asked to work Sudoku puzzles. The subject is given a fixed amount of time to work with no interruptions. In condition 2, the subject is also asked to work Sudoku puzzles for a fixed amount of time, but is periodically interrupted by a cell phone left in the room that rings on a set schedule. Concentration scores are based on the number of puzzles correctly completed during that time.
The higher the score, the better the concentration. In analyzing the data, the subject's score in condition 1 will be subtracted from the subject's score in condition 2. The data will be analyzed using a sign test with an = 0.052tail2tail.
If interruption has an impact on concentration such thatPrealreal = 0.60,please answer the following questions:
1. What is the probability of rejecting H00?
2. What is the power?
3. What is the probability of making a Type II Error, or ?
Remember that:
- We are conducting a sign test
- N = 18
- The test in non-directional (the examiner did not suggest how concentration would be affected, and the is two-tailed.
- = 0.05 2tail2tail
- Preal = 0.60
