A pulp mill system has been designed with a dual press feed system where the pulp stream is dewatered by an initial press, mixed with a heated chemical stream, and dewatered in a second press where most of the diluted chemical stream is recovered. The purpose of this multistage approach is to improve mixing of the chemicals with the pulp stream. The initial press is designed to produce a pulp stream that is 40% pulp/60\% water by mass. The temperature of the water and the pulp exiting the press is 100F. The mass fraction of pulp from of the second press varies between 20% and 35% pulp with the balance being dilute chemical. The process is designed to operate at a rate of 10 metric tons of oven dry pulp per hour. The temperature of the pulp and water from the second press is controlled to 150F by a steam heater on the dilution line to the press feed pump. Treat the dilute chemical stream as water and assume steady state (no change in tank levels). Generate a plot of steam flow required ( kg/bd ) over the 20% to 35% range of the second press dewatering efficiency. Assume the pressure of the steam used for heating is 100 psig. Any dilute chemical added to the system is at 75F. lgnore all heat losses and work done by the pumps. Assume the process requires 3.9105kJ to heat 10 metric tons of oven dry pulp from 100F to 150F
