A researcher examined whether there is a difference in burnout between employees paid hourly verses salary. Burnout was measured as a single variable using the Maslach Burnout Inventory, which consists of 22 items that participants evaluate in terms of their feelings on a 7-point Likert scale (Maslach & Jackson, 1981).

Why is a One way ANOVA, between subjects, considered the best parametric test for this question as opposed to a T-Test? I am confused. Thank you.
