A variety of smooth items can hold fingerprints. These items include aluminum window screen frames, live plants, paper of all kinds, and automobile bodies. However, prints cannot be recovered from very rough surfaces such as bricks, rough rocks, or fabric. Moreover, it is impossible to count on always getting prints from even the smoothest surface. There are too many variables that affect the quality of fingerprints, including heat and humidity, the cleanliness of the surface, and the condition of the hands of the person who left the prints.
