Adam is a French national studying in a Lithuanian university. When he is enrolled into a student residence hall run by a private Swedish company, his belongings are once stolen form the room. The company refused to act because Adam is not an Lithuanian national. How can EU law redress Adam's grievances regarding the theft of his posessions?

Jacques is a French national, who decided to go and study physics in Lithuania. He successfully enrols at the University, and is admitted to one of the most prestigious student halls of residence in the country run by a private Swedish company 'Tw and Litt Akstidd'. His excitement for the beginning of this new adventure is however disturbed by two unpleasant events.

Firstly, a couple of weeks after moving into halls, someone breaks into his room and steals some of his most prized possessions. The trauma is compounded by the discovery that 'Tw and Litt Akstidd''s policy is to provide compensation only for students who are nationals of the EU Member State where the company is operating (in this case, Lithuanian nationals).
