  • Address the content of your colleagues' analyses of their ethical challenges and how they may address these challenges.
  • Explain insights you gained into your own research process by considering your colleagues' postings on the ethical challenges posed in their research.

Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) were first established in 1974 as part of the National Research Act.1 At the time, their primary focus was to protect the rights of the human subjects used in research. Today, IRBs still play a critical role in the research arena, but in a role that has become more comprehensive. An Institutional Review Board is responsible for reviewing research that includes the collection or analysis of data to ensure that it meets the ethical standards set by an institutionsuch as a universityand U.S. federal regulations. At Walden University, students must submit research for approval by the IRB to receive credit and progress through their educational journey (Understanding-The-Role-of-An-Institutional-Review-Board, n.d.). My issue is biased responses because my research asks personal questions regarding individual unique living situations such as government housing assistance. Bias causes false conclusions and can be misleading. Regarding surveys and interviews, the researcher will ask participants to answer questions honestly and inform them that they will remain anonymous. The integrity would not be compromised because participants will be assigned numbers and letters to respond to each portion of the interview, focus group, and survey.
