Aden is a contractor who is good with plumbing and electrical work and a long-time good friend of Brenlyn who has a lot of issues with her house including plumbing leaks, faulty wires and loose wood floors. She has been trying for over a year to sell her house but is unable to because of those issues that would not allow the house to pass home inspections. Brenlyn concludes it would be financially better get out of these house issues through other means. Brenlyn approaches her friend Aden and promises to pay him if he is able to strategically expose electrical wiring near damaged flooring; this floor is also in the kitchen near both the sink and stove. She says she will pay him $10,000 for the job in about 6 months after he completed work because she will have the money by then. Aden is certain that this work will lead to a fire based on his profession and experience, and that fire will be caused when Brenlyn uses either the sink or stove. Brenlyn intended to have the house set fire to so that she could receive $500,000 homeowners insurance to which she could pay Aden once that money is obtained. According to the insurance policy, money would be received within 4 months after a fire occurs. Aden knows this and does the work, and 2-days later, Brenlyns house caught fire due electrical issues. About 2 months after the fire occurred and while Brenlyn was awaiting the money, she decided she would not be paying Aden because she found another house to purchase that is over the $500,000 amount she expects to collect from the insurance policy. Brenlyn calls and tells Aden this and said he should understand since they are longtime friends, and she really needs all of the money once it comes in for the new house; plus his moving the wires around should have been a favor because of their friendship. Aden is furious and really feel that he is due to collect that money since he performed a service for a promise to pay in the future, this was all expressed on both sides, which means they have a contract. (Question:) Could Aden legally try to collect the $10,000 from Brenlyn, including trying to take her to court to have her pay on their agreement? Explain why or why not?
