The best thing about pop culture is that it keeps changing from generation to generation, there might be different things one generation might find "cool" and "uncool" while another generation might have a contrary opinion of the same things. The two pop cultures that I think fit this description perfectly are Anime and Superhero genres in movies.

Anime is a short form of Japanese animation; it began as early as 1917 but the modern anime we are familiar with began in 1957. When anime was first released globally it had a very little fan following compared to today's standard. It was considered nerdy and childish and was often overlooked as a proper source of storytelling. It wasn't until the 90s that anime began to grow and became a mainstream pop culture in the US. Now, anime has millions of fans across the globe and is one of the biggest pop cultures of our generation. It still has some absurd shows which I guess is what people who don't watch anime associate it with but that's just the tip of the iceberg, anime has genuinely good stories and has something of everything.

Superhero genre movies were also not positively received when they first aired in mainstream media. Same to anime, it was considered childish and not preferred by audiences. It wasn't until recently that the superhero genre has taken over the film industry. Nowadays, most if not all superhero movies earn millions of dollars and have a huge fan following around the world. The only negative thing I find with the obsession over the superhero genre is that it has undermined the value of other genres.
