ALT BAD NEWS ASSIGN.
A SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT CASE STUDY
Introduction
You are the Supply Chain Manager of Elm International heading up a logistics project for one of your biggest clients (Delta Corporation). The project started off well and as expected you had carefully created the plans and a team eager to get the job done. The client satisfaction rating was at an all-time high of 5/5. Your reputation as a supply chain manager could not have been better. While the project kicked off well it soon ran into problems.
Client (Delta) Stakeholder Changing Requirements
The project involved your company (Elm) creating a supply chain plan that included interconnected or interlinked networks and channels in the provision ofDelta'sproductsandservicesrequired by Delta's end customers. Duringthe course of the project, the volatility of the client's requirements did not stop. At every other checkpoint, Delta had new ideas. In one instance, a couple of new and fairly complex features were introduced, including a whole new interlinked network for getting the supplies to the end customers. Each feature had a number of smaller features. To add to the complexity, there was a fair degree of interdependency between the features. The supply chain management methodology adopted by you was just not suited for such a high degree of dynamic development. It was too late in the project to experiment with new networks and channels involving further interconnection/links. Even though the client (Delta) was paying for these changes, the deadline was fixed. You battled to get new resources on board. The ones you got, needed time for ramping up. This was turning out to be a nightmare for Elm International.
With the limited resources working into the wee hours, you came to the conclusion that it would be impossible to incorporate the new network and channel requirements without compromising the fixed deadline set by the client.
