Amira and Susan are close friends and neighbours, living side by side in a semi-detached property. After suffering a bereavement the previous year, Amira is diagnosed with bipolar disorder and prescribed medication by Dr Nita. At the time, Dr Nita and Amira discuss that the drug she is being placed on is very new, but still approved by the government for use and is better than other similar drugs at limiting the amount of nausea, something that Amira is concerned about.

On a September evening last year, Susan is awoken by crying and screaming coming from next door. Uncertain of what was causing the screaming, Susan immediately rings for the police, where her call is answered by Matthew. On the phone Susan frantically explains the situation, stating that she was unsure whether Amira was being attacked, or whether she was having a mental health crisis. Matthew responds by stating that 'a police car will be on its way immediately and should be with Amira shortly'. After stating that she wanted to check on Amira, Matthew tells Susan that 'as we don't know the circumstances around the incident, you should leave this to the police'.

Matthew immediately reports the issue and grades the call as a Category 1 emergency meaning that immediate assistance is necessary. Unfortunately, all of the police are busy on other calls and it is not until fifteen minutes later that Police Constables Danielle and Andrew intercept the alert. It takes PCs Danielle and Andrew a further five minutes before they arrive at Amira's home, where they discover that she has taken her own life.The next morning, Amira's parents arrive at her home after receiving word of the incident from the police. When they arrive, Amira's parents are met by the police and the coroners. Susan also comes outside to discuss the previous night with Amira's parents and to witness the happenings. It is soon after discovered by Amira's parents that the medication prescribed by Dr Nita carries a 0.9% risk of suicide, which had not been disclosed to her when the medication was initially prescribed. Susan soon after begins suffering from flashbacks and nightmares and is later diagnosed with PTSD.
