Carbon Manufacturing is looking for employees in all departments. High pay, benefits, no union dues. Apply at the personnel department. Knowing that the Carbon plant was a union shop and that a strike was under way, you figured this was a temporary position with no future. Then a friend informed you that he had applied, and was told that the company planned to replace the union strikers permanently. He explained that the pay was at current union levels and benefit were pretty good. The only catch was that the company expected you never to join a union.
