answer all parts to this problem Problem 2: VOC incinerators (30 points)
You are asked to design an afterburner to destroy 99.9% of 2,3,7,8- tetrachlorodibenzodioxin
(TCDD), the structure of which is shown in the following image:
The burner will use propane as fuel gas and treat 8,000ft3min of polluted air that enters the
burner at 250F.
a) Estimate the necessary temperature of the afterburner using the Lee method for a residence
time of 2s. The autoignition temperature of TCDD is 997F.(10 pts)
b) Calculate the rate of propane necessary if the air-to-fuel ratio is 2 and the fractional heat loss
10%. The ambient air temperature is 60F.(10 pts)
c) Calculate the length and diameter of the burner if the gas velocity is 10fts.(10 pts)
