PART B: Dynamics [14 marks, 30 minutes] Page3 1. A ball is thrown vertically upward from a window that is 3.6 m above the ground. Its initial speed is 2.8 m/s. With what speed does the ball hit the ground? [3 marks] 2. A circus clown is fired from a cannon into a net that is situated 2.0 m above the cannon and an unknown horizontal distance from it. The cannon is elevated at 50 to the horizontal and the clown's speed at launch is 15 m/s. Find the horizontal distance from the cannon where the net needs to placed in order for the clown to land in it. [5 marks] v= 15 m/s 20 m Page4 4. A 23-kg block is pushed with a 50 N force up a slope that is at a 30 angle to the ground. The coefficient of friction for the slope is 0.25. Calculate the value of the force of friction. [2 marks] 5. Two masses, 4.0 kg and 6.0 kg, are connected by a "mass less" rope over a "frictionless" pulley as pictured in the diagram. The ramp is inclined at 30.0 and the coefficient of kinetic friction on the ramp is 0.18. [4 marks] 4.0 kg HK = 0.18 6.0 kg 30 (a) Determine the acceleration of the 6 kg mass once it begins to move.
