1. In your own experience, have you seen evidence of 'soft' and 'hard' management? Give a brief example of each if you have one. Why do you think that Theory X managers still exist? Or If you don't think they do exist today, why not? (Part of this is discussed in the article)

2. In the article, McGregor addresses how Theory Y meets an individual's higher order needs better than the carrot and stick approach (he refers to his friend Abraham Maslow). Using the needs addressed in section II of the article, (a) describe what your needs are in each category and (b) how work can meet those needs. Don't use generic needs, think about what needs are important for your own personality, situation, goals, etc...

3. Read the article, How to Be a Visionary Leader and Still Have a Personal Life. Give at least two important take aways from the article. How do you try to balance school, work, and family? Discuss how this could change as you begin your career.
