Article Review

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is for you to show your understanding of peer-reviewed empirical articles through: 1) reviewing original research; 2) evaluating claims, methods, and conclusions; and 3) communicating your analysis in a way that translates scientific information into common terms for a general audience. You gain skills in summarizing key points and findings, interpreting results, evaluating the validity of the methods used and results reported, and communicating information to an audience in ways they understand.

1. Locate an article that was published within the previous seven (7) years in an APA publication that focuses on personality (such as Personality and Personality Disorders or publication of Personality and Social Psychology). The article need to include a detailed account of an experiment or empirical study conducted by the researchers. This indicates that the study's independent and dependent variables are clear to see and were identified by the researchers. (Avoid choosing editorials, theoretical pieces, summaries, or meta-analyses. It is your duty to ensure that the journal article you choose is suitable.)

2. Developa summary of the article that is entirely paraphrased in your own terms, using your own writing structure and style. A few word changes from the source text do not constitute a complete paraphrase.

3. Be sure to address the following questions:

• What is the purpose of the research? (Address specifics regarding the overall purpose of the research in question.)
• What hypothesis is tested? (Provide a clear statement of the researchers' prediction.)
• How did the researchers investigate their research question? (Provide details regarding the study methodology.)
• What are the pertinent results of the manipulation? (What were the findings and conclusions drawn?)
• What is yourpersonal opinion of the study conducted? Should it be repeated? What could be improved?
• What is your overall impression of the work? What are the implications of the study for the practice of counseling psychology?

Deliver your summary as a well-organized narrative rather than as a series of responses to these questions. You should cover these important concerns in your analysis, even if you offer new findings.
