ASSIGNMENT #1 | Specification Writing Background In order to understand the different writing styles used in specifications, you are to prepare a specification for a particular construction situation that you select. The piece of writing must contain the following types of communication: 1. Using active voice and imperative mood for conveying instructions. 2. Using active voice and indicative mood to clarify the party responsible for an action. 3. Using the indicative mood to state a fact, as opposed to directing an action. The construction scenario should be based on your Studio 4 project. Despite not having a design (or concept, for that matter) you still have had the opportunity to examine your design parameters, site and programme. If you are currently not enrolled in Studio 4, then you are to use your Studio 3 project parameters. This Assignment is to be completed individually. Submission Documents Use standard letter size paper (8.5"x11"); Outline your scenario briefly (one paragraph); Write your instructions using the three language styles outlined above; Your specification should have a 15 sentences, using a combination of: o 5 instructions [active voice; imperative mood]; o 5 clarifications [active voice; indicative mood]; and o 5 statements [indicative mood]. Submit a PDF of your work uploaded to the SLATE dropbox. Procedure Your studio project will have been introduced to you in Studio 4, giving you preliminary ideas on what you might like to explore.
